Business Address

⏳ Video Length — 00:06:38

Lesson Summary

Another step in building business credit is establishing an official address for the business that is different from the owners address.

The question that most business owners have regarding this is, how do you get a business address that isn’t your home address if your business is in your house?

Although P.O. boxes and UPS boxes are available, some lenders want to see a physical address in an area of business… and will deny you if you don’t have one.

But, if you are running a business online or from your home, you don’t have 2 addresses, right?

This is where a virtual office comes into play.

What is a Virtual Office and How Does it Work?

A virtual office gives businesses a physical address and office-related services without the overhead of a property lease and staff. With a virtual office, employees can work from anywhere but still have things like a mailing address, phone answering services, meeting rooms, and videoconferencing.

Here is what you can receive with a Virtual Business Office:

*Live receptionist answering calls

*Corporate mailing address

*Company phone number

*Company fax number

*Voicemail converted to email

*Premium call forwarding

*Use of fully furnished offices and meeting rooms available

These services are ideal for those that need a physical address but do not need an actual office.

It’s important to remember some lenders will not fund “home based” businesses. This doesn’t mean you can’t build business credit, but it may limit your funding options.

If you are using a physical business address other than your home then the best way to know if the address you are using will work or not is to test it using Experian’s address verification tool.

If the address shows “residential or mail stop” it is something you should fix. If the address comes back as “business or unknown”, you are fine using that address for your business.
